Time: 7:00pm. ‘The A-Train to Alhambra’ Imagine ancient Iberian culture and 21st century jazz blending with visions of Bohemian Montmartre and delicately scented Moorish palaces. The A-Train to Alhambra dismantles boundaries and proves the inspired significance of collaboration between jazz and Latin musical traditions. This unique instrumental combination presents a powerfully exhilarating musical experience by playing dynamic Latin rhythms through a sophisticated jazz filter. With the guitar representing Latin colour and the piano expressing French inspired jazz, the double bass and percussion form a musical bridge that gives the performance added dimension. Spoken narrative interludes provide the audience with an interesting cultural context, helping to bring the works alive. In 1975 Claude Bolling composed his seminal and boundary breaking ‘Concerto for Guitar and Jazz Piano Trio’. Now the story continues with a fresh interpretation that builds upon Bolling’s vision with two new works composed by the pianist John Cervantes that celebrate contemporary cross-genre musical dialogue.
